Chapter 5

Assigning drivers, and binding trackers

The two ways a fleet vehicle reports where it is, how an assignment looks from the driver’s side, and which of your team members can do any of it.

  1. Step 1

Open Driver assignment and assign a driver to a vehicle by their user ID or their phone number.

The driver has to be a MageRide driver already. You are linking an existing driver to your vehicle, not creating an account for them.

  2. Step 2

On the driver’s side, the vehicle appears in a group of its own — vehicles temporarily assigned to them — showing which fleet assigned it and for how long. They select it and go online with it, one vehicle at a time.

  3. Step 3

The assignment history shows who has been on which vehicle, so you can look it up rather than remember it.

  4. Step 4

To end an assignment, revoke it. The driver immediately loses the ability to start a new session on that vehicle.

A session already running is either allowed to finish or ended, depending on how you choose to handle it. Assignments also expire on their own.

  5. Step 5

To use a hardware tracker instead, open Tracker binding and enter the device’s IMEI or MAC address.

  6. Step 6

Turn on automatic sessions. A vehicle with a tracker bound to it starts and ends its journey by itself.

That is the point of a tracker. Nobody has to remember to press Start, and a bus that leaves the depot is already reporting.

  7. Step 7

Set how often the tracker reports — often during your operating hours, sparsely outside them. It is a balance between how fresh the map is and how much data the device uses.

How do I start driving with MageRide?
Install the driver app, sign in with your phone number, and register your vehicle in four steps: the vehicle, insurance, revenue licence and photos. You photograph each document in the app — most details are read automatically, and anything unclear is checked by a person before approval.
