Chapter 10
Driving towards home
Directional travel narrows the hires you are offered to the ones going your way. It is worth understanding before you use it, because it is limited, it expires, and switching it off early still spends one of the day’s turns.
Step 1
While you are online, open Directional Travel from the dashboard. It is the chip beside the standby toggle.
Step 2
Choose where you are heading — search for an address, drop a pin on the map, or pick Home if you have saved one. A marker shows the direction it works out from where you are now.
Step 3
The screen tells you how many turns you have left today and how long a turn lasts before you commit to one. Tap Set Direction and it starts.
Today MageRide allows two a day, each lasting up to two hours. Both are settings rather than fixed rules, and the screen always shows the numbers that apply to you.
Step 4
A banner then stays on your screen for as long as it is running, showing your destination, the time left, and the turns you have not used. You cannot forget it is on, which is deliberate.
Step 5
From then on you are only offered hires that head your way: the trip has to move you towards your destination, the pickup has to be roughly on your route, and the drop-off has to leave you closer to where you are going than the pickup did.
Step 6
Ten minutes before it expires you get a reminder, and the banner starts pulsing. When it does expire it clears itself and you go back to receiving everything you are eligible for.
Accepting a matching hire does not end it — it keeps running so you can chain another in the same direction. MageRide can configure it to clear after the first matched trip instead, and the app tells you which way yours is set.
Step 7
Turning it off early ends it immediately — and still spends the turn. So does going offline, which clears it without asking. Set it when you are genuinely done for the day rather than to see what it does.
Step 8
It works the same way for package jobs as for passenger rides, and it never overrides anything else: a hire you would not have been offered anyway does not become available because you are heading that way.

Questions about this
- How do I start driving with MageRide?
- Install the driver app, sign in with your phone number, and register your vehicle in four steps: the vehicle, insurance, revenue licence and photos. You photograph each document in the app — most details are read automatically, and anything unclear is checked by a person before approval.
- How much of the fare does a driver keep?
- All of it. MageRide takes no commission. The fare shown to the passenger before booking is exactly what the driver receives, and for card payments the gateway settles straight to the driver’s own account — MageRide never holds ride money.
