Going on standby

Step 1

Standby is the large toggle on the dashboard. Turned on, you join the pool of drivers the system can send hires to; turned off, a grey overlay tells you so.

Step 2

The toggle stays disabled until you have a vehicle available to drive — one you own that has been approved, or one shared or temporarily assigned to you by a fleet.

With no vehicle at all, the app offers to register one. A fleet assignment simply expires on its own date and asks nothing of you.

Step 3

The first trip of every day is free. Nothing is taken from your wallet for it, on any vehicle, on any day.

Step 4

The daily fee is taken before your second trip of the day, as one flat amount set by your vehicle type. After that the day is paid for however many trips follow, and on a day you never go online you are charged nothing at all.

Step 5

If your wallet cannot cover it when a second request comes up, the request is missed rather than refused, and you are told that is why. An empty wallet does not look like an error — it looks like a quiet afternoon.

Step 6

MageRide warns you when your balance falls to Rs 200, and you can set your own figure in the app if you would rather hear about it earlier.

Step 7

Only one of your vehicles is live at a time — the one selected in My Vehicles. Going offline also clears a directional-travel filter if you had one running, and setting it again spends another of that day’s uses.
