Photographing your documents

Step 1

Tap any capture slot — licence, insurance, revenue licence, vehicle photo — and the same document scanner opens: a live camera with a frame drawn over what it can see.

Step 2

The app guesses where the edges of the document are and puts a four-cornered frame on them. Drag the corners so the whole document sits inside the frame and fills it.

The guess is only a starting point. If it has caught the table rather than the paper, move the corners yourself — what you leave inside the frame is exactly what gets sent.

Step 3

Use photo straightens and crops what you framed, and uploads that. Retake starts over, and there is a flash for a dark yard. You can pick an existing photo from your gallery instead, though a fresh capture usually reads better.

Step 4

Your driving licence, front and back, is read for the licence number, the expiry, your NIC number and the classes you are licensed for.

Step 5

Your insurance certificate is read for its expiry date, and your revenue licence for its number and its expiry date.

Step 6

The two vehicle photographs are read for the number plate, which is matched against the registration number you typed at step 1. A plate that cannot be read, or that does not match, holds that step up.

Step 7

Everything the app reads is shown back to you before it goes anywhere, and you can correct any of it.

Correcting a field is not a failure. It makes that value one a person will confirm rather than one the app could stand behind on its own, and the next chapter is what happens to it.
