MageRide

Chapter 13

Booking for someone else

You can book a ride for your mother, a colleague or a guest who has never heard of MageRide. They do not need the app, an account, or a phone that can run either.

  1. Step 1

On the booking screen, switch from For me to For someone else, then enter their name and phone number or pick them from your contacts.

  2. Step 2

Set where they are being collected from. You can type it, drop a pin on the map, or paste a Google Maps link somebody sent you.

  3. Step 3

There is a fourth way, and it is the accurate one: ask them. MageRide sends them a request for their pickup spot, they adjust a pin on a map, and the point they confirm fills in on your screen.

If they already have MageRide the request arrives in the app. If they do not, it arrives as a text message with a link, and works the same way in their browser.

  4. Step 4

They have five minutes to answer, and they may simply decline. If they decline, ignore it or run out of time, you place the pin yourself and carry on booking.

  5. Step 5

From there you book exactly as you would for yourself — vehicle, fare, Book Now. The driver is told this is a booking for somebody else and is given the rider’s name.

  6. Step 6

As soon as a driver accepts, the rider gets a text with a tracking link. It opens a page with the driver’s name and photo, the vehicle and its number plate, a live map with an arrival time, and the start code to read out.

  7. Step 7

That page has a tap-to-call button for the driver and an emergency button. If they press the emergency button, the alert is texted to you — the person who arranged the ride.

  8. Step 8

The link is tied to that one ride and stops working when the trip ends. After that it shows nothing at all — no route, no driver, no history.

Questions about this

Will the driver see my phone number?
Once a driver accepts your ride, you and the driver can see each other’s numbers so you can coordinate the pickup. This is disclosed when you sign up. If you book on someone else’s behalf, the driver sees the rider’s number and never yours.
How do I pay for a ride?
Cash, or by scanning the driver’s QR code at the end of the trip. You choose before you book. Either way the money goes to the driver, not to MageRide.
