The permissions MageRide asks for

Step 1

Before your phone asks anything, MageRide shows a screen of its own saying why it wants your location — to show what is moving near you, and to set the point a driver comes to. Nothing has been requested at this stage.

Step 2

Tap Allow location. Your phone then shows its own permission box, the one no app can reword, and the choice is made there.

Step 3

Choose the option that allows it while you are using the app. That is what the passenger app asks for: precise location in the foreground on Android, When In Use on an iPhone.

Step 4

If you tap Not now, or refuse it by accident, MageRide cannot ask you again itself — no app can. It shows an Open Settings link instead, which takes you to the right page of your phone’s settings.

Step 5

Without it the map has nowhere to centre and no pickup point to start from, so this is the one permission the app genuinely needs. With it, your own position shows as a blue dot inside a circle marking how precise your phone is being, and the map follows you as you move.

Step 6

Notifications are a preference rather than something MageRide holds over you. You set it while creating your profile and change it in Profile and settings. They are what tell you that a driver has accepted, that the driver has arrived, that the trip has started, that a payment went through, or that a ride you booked in advance is coming up.

Step 7

The only other thing the app may ask for is your contact list, and only if you tap the contact picker while booking a ride for somebody else. Type the name and number in yourself and it never asks.
