Waiting for a driver

Step 1

Book Now replaces the map with a finding-a-driver screen: a pulse, the vehicle type you chose, and a countdown.

Step 2

The request goes to one driver at a time, not to everybody at once. MageRide picks the best candidate nearby and holds the offer open for that driver alone.

Step 3

Each driver has fifteen seconds to accept. If they do not, the offer moves straight to the next driver, and so on down the list.

Step 4

The list is ordered by how close the driver is, their driver level, and whether their vehicle is the type you asked for. Drivers do not bid and they cannot see what you are paying differently from one another — the fare was fixed before you tapped Book.

Step 5

The whole search runs for two minutes. If nobody has accepted by then you are told so, the request cancels itself, and the app offers to try again.

Trying again is a fresh search, not a queue position. Picking a different vehicle type often helps, because it changes which drivers are eligible at all.

Step 6

A driver who lets the fifteen seconds pass, or taps no, is not penalised for it. They may be finishing another trip, or heading somewhere specific — a driver on their way home can set a filter that only brings them hires going the same way. A decline is almost never about you.

Step 7

Which is why the honest answer to “why is this taking so long” is usually that there are few suitable drivers near you at that moment. Time of day and how far out you are matter more than anything you can change on the screen.

Step 8

Cancel is on this screen and it is free. Nothing is charged for a ride that never found a driver.

Step 9

The moment a driver accepts, this screen becomes the ride screen — their name, their vehicle, and a live map. That is the next chapter.
