Chapter 12

Sending a package

A parcel travels the same way a person does — the same drivers, the same dispatch, the same fares. What is different is that two other people are involved: whoever hands it over and whoever receives it.

  1. Step 1

On the booking screen, switch from Person to Package.

  2. Step 2

Pick a size. Small is up to about five kilos and fits a backpack or a motorbike box; medium is up to about twenty and wants a three-wheeler or a car boot; large is over twenty and needs a van or a truck. The hint under each size tells you which vehicles can take it.

  3. Step 3

Describe what is inside, then add the recipient’s name and phone number, and set both ends of the journey — pickup and drop-off.

Either end can be typed, dropped as a pin, or pasted from a Google Maps link. For the drop-off you can also ask the recipient to share it themselves.

  4. Step 4

Choose how it is paid for. Cash, your MageRide balance and the driver’s QR all work as they do for a ride. Packages add one more: cash on delivery, where the person receiving it pays the driver at the door.

  5. Step 5

Once a driver is on the way you get a four-digit pickup code. Give it to them when they collect the parcel — they cannot mark it collected without it.

  6. Step 6

The recipient is told the moment it is collected. If they have MageRide they get a notification; if they do not, they get a text with a link that opens a plain tracking page in their browser. Either one shows the map and their own four-digit delivery code.

  7. Step 7

Both of you watch the same four stages: pickup pending, picked up, in transit, delivered. The driver enters the delivery code at the door to finish it.

  8. Step 8

If nobody is there to receive it, the driver can complete the delivery with a photograph of where the parcel was left instead of a code.

Questions about this

How do I pay for a ride?
Cash, or by scanning the driver’s QR code at the end of the trip. You choose before you book. Either way the money goes to the driver, not to MageRide.
What kinds of vehicle are on MageRide?
Ten. Motorbike, three-wheeler, Flex, sedan, mini van and van for rides; truck and mini truck additionally for deliveries; and buses and trains for public transport. Each has its own colour on the map.
