Following a private vehicle

Step 1

Private vehicles appear on the map as grey markers. Tap one and MageRide opens the access request with that vehicle’s ID already filled in.

Step 2

You can also reach the same screen from the menu, under Private transport, and type the Vehicle ID in yourself — which is what you do when the van is not on your screen at the time.

Step 3

Send the request. It goes to that vehicle’s owner, or to the driver assigned to it, and it shows them your name and your mobile number so they can tell who is asking.

Step 4

The screen then shows where the request stands: Pending while you wait, then Accepted or Rejected. Nothing about the vehicle is visible to you until it says Accepted.

Step 5

Once it is accepted the vehicle appears on your map and you follow it like any other — watch the van leave the school, watch the staff bus come down the road. Tap it to see where it is and which way it is going.

Step 6

Access is granted per vehicle rather than per operator. If a fleet runs six vans you ask for the one your child travels on, and the owner deals with that vehicle’s requests under that vehicle.

Step 7

The owner can withdraw access whenever they choose and it takes effect at once — the vehicle simply stops being on your map. Getting it back means a new request that they have to accept.

Step 8

A private vehicle publishes its position on a schedule its owner sets, so outside its working hours there may be nothing to see.
